Volunteer Orientations

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for Animal Services, located in Olympia, WA.  Shelter Volunteers must be able to commit to at least 4 hours per month for a minimum of 6 months, as we do not have the resources to accommodate short-term volunteers.  Below is information on our volunteer orientations, which are held at The Shelter. Upcoming orientations are posted on this page and Facebook.

**Reservations are required for all orientations.  You can make an online reservation (link below) or directly contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 360-352-2510 x1009 or email her to make a reservation for a scheduled orientation–leave your name, number, AND which orientation/position/time period you are applying for.  If you are making the reservation for more than one person, include their information, too.  Please make sure you include all of the above information as we cannot accept incomplete reservations.

After we receive your reservation request, the Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you within a couple of working days (Tue-Fri) to confirm your reservation. *

Foster Home ONLY Orientation (lasts 30-45 minutes)

Thank you for wanting to be a foster home! During this COVID-19 pandemic, we were fortunate to have more people sign up to foster than we have available foster animals! If you’d like to be notified when we need new foster homes, please fill out this form and I will email you when we are in need.

General Volunteer Orientation (lasts 75 minutes)
Please press F5 on your keyboard to refresh this page for the most current information.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Shelter!  Due to COVID-19 and the need for social distancing, we are not currently taking in new volunteers.  When we need new volunteers, and there is a safe method for the onboarding process, we will host an orientation.  The orientation will say what positions and time periods are needed. (We cannot take reservations for orientations that are not yet scheduled.)

*We are unable to allow late entry into an orientation. If you are not able to make it to the beginning of an orientation, please come to another session. Children under 14 must be accompanied by their adult volunteer partners at all times.

If after the orientation you feel that volunteering would be a good fit for you, please submit a volunteer application. (Applications are handed out at the orientation.)  The application includes background check paperwork and your social security number is required.

It can take up to a couple of weeks to process your application and background check. We will then contact you to schedule your training or home check for fostering.
