Cockfighting operation busted!
In April 2014, Animal Services was asked by the Washington State Gambling Commission to assist with their multi-agency warrant in response to neighbors’ complaints about an alleged cockfighting operation. Upon arriving at the Rochester residence, officers and agents found approximately 348 fighting cocks, fighting paraphernalia, and evidence the birds had been altered to fight. A suspect, Victor Chavez, was arrested immediately.
In November 2015, Chavez pleaded guilty to 10 felonies, 10 gross misdemeanors and 5 misdemeanors. He was ordered to do 30 days in jail and to not own, possess or live with anyone who has birds.
